Wildlife plays a very large role in attracting visitors to Sri Lanka. There are more than 440 species of birds, 33 of which are endemic to the island. Sri Lankan forests have the largest density of leopards in the world and the country is home to the biggest herd of wild elephants. When driving through the Sri Lankan countryside, it is not unusual to come across elephant herds on the side of the road. Wildlife is literally everywhere you look: crocodiles, monitor lizards, deer and more.
Sri Lanka also has a long and proud ancient history. Crumbling ancient cities with great palaces and temples are wonderfully atmospheric to explore. Sri Lankans are friendly, helpful and have great respect for their wildlife and nature. The country boasts some incredible boutique accommodation, and then there’s the food, which is nothing short of delicious!
