Terelj Hotel, Mongolia
To create a 5* hotel on the Mongolian steppe has been quite a challenge and one that has been pulled off to provide a surprisingly opulent residence in unexpected surroundings.
The Terelj Hotel goes one step further and is more than just any old 5* hotel anywhere in the world. It proudly, admirably and tastefully incorporates Mongolia’s rich culture and PJ's appreciation for all things Mongolian put the felt signage throughout the hotel at the top of our list of compliments when Karina met him. As we had imagined, the signs took 6 months of persistence to be delivered to such a high standard.
Attention to detail is key. The staff of the Terelj Hotel all made suggestions for the execution of the rooms. From the leather pocket emptier and Clinique products to the beautifully embossed stationery boxes, there is a pride in the delivery that is impressive. The Mongolian owners of the hotel display their antiques and art through the hotel.
The Terelj Hotel is on the banks of the Terelj River. Year round it is a very comfortable base for exploring the attractive Terelj and Khenti region. We are not sure about the environmental implications of the indoor pool operating even when temperatures outside are minus 20 degrees celsius, but the hotel is a great place to warm up after a day of dogsledding, horse trekking or celebrating Tsagaan Sar.
