KHARKHIRAA TREK

MONGOLIA - Uvs Province has some of the most pristine and spectacular countryside in Mongolia. Remote and wild, the area around the Kharkhira Mountains provides the ideal terrain for trekking. This exploratory hike follows routes of nomadic herders, through lush meadows and up over high passes to glacial valleys and lakes.

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, where you will visit the city's National museum and enjoy a music performance and welcome dinner. Then fly West to Ulaangom, the capital of Uvs Province, from where you head South towards the Kharkhira Mountains to start your trek. You will load up pack-horses and camels with all the equipment for the next 10 days, and then the expedition will stride out into the wilds. You will walk for 6-7 hours per day, covering between 20-25km, over varying terrain - gentle rolling hills, valleys, beside rivers and lakes, up over high rocky passes on rugged paths, and over the frozen ice of the Turgen glacier. Altitude will vary between 2,200m and 3,400m. Days on the move, evenings around the camp fire enjoying rustic food, and nights under canvas. At the end of your adventure, return to UB where a hot bath awaits and a dinner in one of our favourite restaurants.
