One of the world's great deserts,
the space and freedom of the Gobi is invigorating. The intense
sunshine by day and the bright stars at night, make it a
surreal and spiritual place. The epic landscape is made
up of broad flat plains, massive sand dunes, tall cliffs,
mountain and narrow gorges. The desert is home for many
of Mongolia's threatened species including wild ass, wild
camel, the Gobi bear, black-tailed gazelle, saiga antelope,
ibex, argali and snow leopard.
Often hauntingly empty, it is not hard to imagine the dinosaurs
that once roamed in this landscape. We visit a family of
camel breeders who invite us to ride their animals to the
towering sand dunes. We explore the red cliffs of Bayanzag
and enter Yol Am valley.
